THE speed limit on the A40 Oxford Road through Denham is to be increased from 30mph to 40mph, with a puffin crossing also to be installed. Bucks County Council is to start work on the changes at the end of the month. Street lighting will remain on.

BEACONSFIELD Concerts’ hosts three distinguished classical musicians on February 18. The line-up at Beaconsfield High School includes horn player David Pyatt, violinist Lucy Gould and pianist Leon McCawley. They will play pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann and Brahms from 7.45pm. A SHOP selling frozen meals has opened in Beaconsfield New Town - replacing the former lingerie store La Senza. COOK, which sells upmarket frozen meals, was opened in Station Parade last week by franchisee Matthew Bourne. He already runs a store in Harpenden. The store promises food that looks and tastes homemade, for people without the time or inclination to cook for themselves.

A BEACONSFIELD-based publisher has scooped an award for its picture books which simultaneously introduce children to the English and Welsh languages. Diglot Books won the Best New Product award at the Wales Spring Fair, run by the Welsh Arts and Crafts Council. A team of judges from local retailers recognised the company’s Welsh Language Gift Pack.

NINE-YEAR-OLD Dominic Martin, from Butlers Court School, has been shortlisted in a national design competition. He created an image to raise the public’s awareness of renewable resources, as part of a completion run by WWF and Tetra Pak. The winner, selected from over 1,000 entries, will win £100, with the opportunity for a further £2,000 to be donated to his or her school to fund an environmental project. BEACONSFIELD Library will host a reading from John Evelyn’s diaries on February 24, with Don Jarvis and Dr John Stanbury, from Beaconsfield History Society. The readings will cover his experiences in England and Europe while attempting to escape the Civil War in the 17th Century. The event, titled ‘From Frying Pan to Fire’, starts at 10.30am. GERRARDS CROSS Conservation Area will be the subject of an illustrated talk at Hedgerley Memorial Hall on Kiln Lane on Wednesday.
