A MAN had to be cut out of his car by firefighters after a crash on the Marlow Road, Bourne End.

Crews from Beaconsfield and Marlow fire stations were called out at 9.17pm last night.

Beaconsfield Watch Manager Stuart Grosse said it took about 40 minutes to extricate the trapped driver of a Renault Clio, which was involved in a collision with a 4 x 4 vehicle.

It is unclear yet how serious his injuries were.

He was taken away by the ambulance service.

The other driver was released, uninjured, before firefighters arrived.

Both cars were badly damaged and the smaller one was a write off, Watch Manager Grosse said.

Police also attended.

My other half also had a bad crash coming off the the M40 this morning, he called me at 10.52 am to tell me he had written off the car (since confirmed by Recovery company) He span on black ice and ended up in the barrier just under the bridge on slip road coming up to exit at Tescos roundabout. The Highways Agency that attended the scene explained that they had put down grit, but it only works in temperatures of -7 and last night it reached -12. We are just lucky that the accident was not worse and he is alive to tell the tale. He is very shaken up and now we have all the hassles of an insurance claim to go through. Great?

Sorry to hear your tale Kate. I'm not commenting on your case but unfortunately there are a lot of drivers who are paying no attention to the temperatures and the fact that the roads might be icy and assume that grit will make the surface as good as normal conditions and that there modern cars with ABS and Traction Control etc. will keep them out of trouble. Judging by the speeds at which they take corners or the braking distances they leave I'm sure there are many more accidents than are reported here. Hopefully the only injuries are to the vehicles and that it serves as a wake-up call to the idiots.

How about a little concern for the person involved in this horrible incident. Surely we should as a community be concerned with the drivers condition before we go making assumptions about how he was driving at the time!

Nonsense! In the poor light under the bridge black ice (it's black!) is hard to see and you don't get another go at it unlike computer games. Not seriously bad at all, not even slightly bad, merely less than completely experienced under these very unusual (minus 9 on Saturday morning) low temperatures. Armco is very unforgiving...

Your other half is alive for gods sake and you moan about the hassle of an insurance claim.
