Is love lost in Bucks?

Is love lost in Bucks? Is love lost in Bucks?

WITH Britons named the least romantic in Europe, how are people in Bucks celebrating Valentine’s Day this year?

A recent survey by lastminute.com suggested British couples are the least romantic in Europe judging on how much they spend on February 14 mini breaks with their loved ones.

But with British postal services having to employ extra sorters this week as the tradition of sending romantic cards continues and red hearts decorating high streets across the country, is love really lost?

The Bucks Free Press took to the streets of High Wycombe to see whether the people of South Bucks are celebrating Valentine’s Day this year.

Kate, 33 from High Wycombe said: “My husband and I are going out for a lovely meal and he left a card and some roses in the kitchen for me this morning.”

Lauren, 22 from Marlow said: “I got my boyfriend a three pound monkey with a t-shirt on that says I love you. It even has a sensor coming out of its mouth in a cigarette shape and he wolf- whistles when you walk past.”

Carol, 68 from High Wycombe said: “Actually tonight my husband and I are having beef wellington but I bought it from Morrisons, I didn’t make it.”

Steven, 26 from Marlow said: “I don’t like Valentine’s, I prefer to surprise my girlfriend when she doesn’t expect it, I think that’s much more romantic.”

Pat and Ray Hancock, 81 and 82 from High Wycombe said: “We’re going to find ourselves a nice cup of coffee and then we’re going to do a bit of shopping. As long as we’re together.”

Jane, 54 from Amersham said: “I think its extortion and we never do anything.”

Edward, 31 from Chesham said: “I took my other half on a Thames Dinner Cruise last night, that was very nice.”

Alice, 24 from Princes Risborough said: “My boyfriend is finishing work early and I have the day off. We’re going to stay in and cook together, chill out and actually see one another as we both work so much.

“I’ve never really had a boyfriend on Valentine’s day but that’s all changed this year, this could be the most romantic year yet.”

Paul, 46 from Bourne End said: “We went out on Saturday, we went for a Chinese meal opposite Wembley Stadium.”

Are you celebrating Valentine’s Day this year or is it waste of money? Have your say below.

Everyone in my work today is being very miserable about valentines day, and none of them are doing anything at all for it. But i'm looking forward to it, we are going out for dinner, which is a rare occurance for us nowadays, so i can't wait for some quality time and a nice big yummy dinner! :)

If you read what LastMinute.com said, it says that Brits are the least romantic because they spend the least on mini-breaks (on LastMinute.com).
.
Surely the BFP could just have easily said that it proves that Brits are the most romantic as they put in a lot of thought and plan ahead ... unlike the rest of Europe who remember with only a day or two to go ... hence use LastMinute.com more.
.
But it is easier for a journo to be negative.

Brits spend the least on mini breaks perhaps suggests Brits have the least disposable income in Europe. It's not that people don't want to go away for a weekend, we just can't afford it!

Valentines Day is just another one of these pointless excuses to send cards (e.g. mothers/fathers day, birthday, christmas etc). What's wrong with an email or picking up the phone to say whatever a card is saying?!
