PLANS to transform a Gerrards Cross office block into a two-floor restaurant have been approved by a council. A property firm applied to South Bucks District Council to change the use of Madeley House on Packhorse Road, which is next to Marks & Spencer.

ALL Saints Church in Austenwood is appealing for villagers to send in historical photographs and snippets of information as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. The foundation stone was laid in Oval Way in 1912, and a member of the congregation is compiling a history of the church to mark the anniversary. From September there will be a year of special services and events to mark the centenary.

A BEACONSFIELD charity is preparing to celebrate after thousands of children joined its record-breaking sign-language attempt. The SignHealth charity in Baring Road says about 130,000 children from around the UK sang and signed a song simultaneously last Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of Buckinghamshire schoolchildren gathered at Stoke Mandeville Stadium to take part. A spokesman for the charity said: "We set the current record of 94,489 participants signing and singing a song last year and feel very confident that we have broken this record, but will only the know exact numbers once all the paperwork has been received.”

BEACONSFIELD Concerts host three distinguished classical musicians tomorrow. The line-up at Beaconsfield High School includes horn player David Pyatt, violinist Lucy Gould and pianist Leon McCawley. THE A40 Oxford Road through Denham is due to be closed to all traffic overnight on Monday from 8pm, to allow the remaining footbridge structure to be removed.

BEACONSFIELD Library will host a reading from John Evelyn’s diaries next week, by Don Jarvis and Dr John Stanbury, from Beaconsfield History Society. The readings will cover Evelyn’s experiences in England and Europe while attempting to escape the Civil War in the 17th Century.
