Council to host web chat over Wycombe Masterplan

RESIDENTS are being urged to share their views on the short term improvement plans for public spaces in High Wycombe during a web chat.

Wycombe District Council is hosting the live discussion at 5pm on Tuesday, with residents invited to tell council chiefs their thoughts about the authority’s short and medium term goals for regeneration in the town centre.

WDC Cabinet member for Planning and Sustainability Cllr Hugh McCarthy said: "The High Wycombe masterplan sets a challenging, long term vision for the town centre which will guide our short term improvement decisions.

“Thanks to the input during the public consultation last year, and more recently from local businesses, interest groups and the county council, we're producing a five year action plan for the town centre.

“We want to give local residents the opportunity to tell us whether we've got our short term priorities right. I would encourage any local resident who is online between 5 and 7pm on Tuesday 28 to join in the conversation."

The web chat will be hosted at www.wycombe.gov.uk

A good idea to try out technology and which may benefit from a bit more thought.
.
Obvious one being that there's no details about how to access the webchat on the WDC page.
.
The timing of the event is unfortunate too. The scheduled time of 5-7pm is when people are travelling home from work, so many people won't be able to participate.

Lots of words bandied about and mountains of paperwork for the council and its workers.
.
But what is needed is more actual visible-to-the-publi
c action , I'm afraid. With less 'talking-shops' more actual action might transpire.
.
Otherwise we may all tire and eventually expire on the Wycombe funeral pyre which would be quite dire (for all of us in the resultant fire).

I guess the Public has a choice - they either want to take up the opportunity to be involved in the consultation process or they don't.
.
The previous Council was rightly castigated for failing to engage and involve the community. The new Council is definitely trying to address this.....and is now being castigated for making the effort!

I have looked at pictures and read the report(s) and the long lists of things to do or be addressed.
.
I saw no opportunity for any engagement by the public. The meeting appeared to be of a 'closed' nature and only invited 'groups' involved.

But the WDC website says:"An online discussion is scheduled for 28 February at 5pm to 7pm. Further details on how to take part in this discussion will follow shortly".
.
It doesn't yet give details of how to access the meeting (a point I made in my original post) but it doesn't say that the meeting will be "closed". It is an example of the Council engaging with the public...albeit via the Internet.

Really? I didn't realize they used web conferencing facilities. Did Al Capone have a Twitter #tag?
