Dash For Dad up and running in West Wycombe tomorrow

HUNDREDS of runners are set to descend on West Wycombe Park on Sunday for the second annual Dash for Dad.

More than 300 runners have already signed up to take part in 5k and 10k races and around 70 children will take part in a 1k dash around the National Trust grounds.

They will all be raising money for the Saunderton-based Child Bereavement Charity through taking part in the race, which is taking place on Father’s Day.

The date was chosen as a poignant reminder of the support the charity provides to families who have lost fathers or husbands.

Last year’s inaugural event, which raised £9,000 for the Child Bereavement Charity, was the idea of Marlow runner Sam Amend, who wanted to help the charity as a thank you for the support they gave her young family when her husband James died three years ago.

She said: “I have realised through the voluntary work I do for CBC how many families they touch and their level of importance in our community.”

Runners who want to take part can sign up on the day from 7.30am, before the race starts at 9.30am. Entry to the 5k race is £11 for club runners and £13 for non club runners, and entry to the 10k race is £2 dearer.

Both courses are mixed terrain, taking in the gardens, lakes and woodland of West Wycombe Park and the 10k features a couple of challenging hills.

The winners of last year’s 10k, Eddie O’Gorman and Mary Spalton, will be back to defend their title.
