HUNDREDS of runners marked a sunny Father’s Day morning by racing around the picturesque West Wycombe Park.

The second annual Dash for Dad event is expected to have raised more than £5,000 for the Saunderton-based Child Bereavement Charity.

Julie Murphy, of Marlow Striders, and Chris Bradfield, of Datchet Dashers, were winners in a 10k race, while Daisy White and Delaney Hanson scooped first place in the 5k.

While the adults battled the hilly routes about 70 kids went tearing around a 1k course at the National Trust grounds.

Organiser Sam Amend said the date was chosen as a poignant reminder of the support the Child Bereavement Charity provides to families who have lost fathers or husbands.

The Marlow runner has benefitted from the support given to her young family since her husband James died three years ago.

She told the Bucks Free Press this morning: “It’s gone well with some lovely weather and I’ve had some really positive feedback.

“My two children lost their dad a few years ago and the majority of children who use the charity have lost their fathers.”
