Residents flock to Downley Day Residents flock to Downley Day

THE rain held off for the start of Downley Day on Saturday as residents came out to enjoy the annual event.

A performance by LEAP School of Performing Arts which is based at Downley School started festivities.

Later on there was a dog show, zumba and a martial arts demonstration.

The day raises money for projects in the area and helps fund the free concert on the common which this year is on July 14.

Chairman of the Downley Day Committee, Bill Thompson, said: “It gives a chance for all the different committees, both charitable organisations as well as commercial, to come along.

“It is a big fundraiser.”

He said they normally get between 1,000 and 1,500 people coming down.
