Wycombe rap video urges gangs to 'stop the violence'
A HIP-HOP track urging Wycombe’s youngsters to stay away from a life in gangs has become an internet sensation.
The video for Eye For An Eye - filmed around the town centre and notorious gang hot-spots - has been viewed more than 12,000 times in a week on YouTube and is now starting to gain the attention of radio DJs.
The song, performed by a collective of rappers and singers, was put together by Fulham-based DJ Larry Lomotey who heard about the gang-violence in Wycombe and decided to make a stand.
He said: “I live in Fulham now but I grew up in a place where my friends were mugged at knife point. I read about the gun and knife crime in Wycombe and got in contact with the right people to put this together.
“Even if it stops just one person from getting into a situation where they feel like they need to use violence or they sit down and talk to someone about a situation, this project has done its job.
“Stabbing someone or killing someone does not solve problems, it only adds to your problems and hopefully this will help to stop the violence.”
Eye For An Eye is available to download on iTunes, with all the proceeds going to anti-knife crime charity, the Ben Kinsella Trust, and towards community projects in High Wycombe.
Mr Lomotey, 27, added: “The UK hip-hop scene has been retweeting it on Twitter, BBC Radio 1Xtra DJs retweeted the link, and artists in the US are retweeting it – it’s starting to take off.
“A lot of people talk about doing these things and either don’t bother or none of the money goes to charity.
"But everyone on this project did it for free, I put my own money in and the proceeds will all go to charity.”

There's no problem in Wycombe. Just ask the police. That's what they keep telling us.

Anyway - I agree with you. If this video does help then it is a GOOD thing. And you are right about the whole "who is stronger" thing - in fact I would argue that only cowards carry knives.

To be honest the people who really irritate me are people my age ( 48) who write like it!
Have they ANY idea how flipping stupid it makes them look?

And as for Liverpool, most white people there are more Irish-blooded than British blooded and that's a fact. Everyone knows Liverpool was a major hub of mass irish immigration.
Liverpool FC's fans have a song which goes "we're not English, we are scouse." (Scouse meaning a mixture of predominately irish and a bit of english, scottish, welsh mixed in).
I rest my case.

Have they ever been confronted with a real gangster brandishing a sawn-off, seen a woman glassed in the face or dealt with the aftermath of someone who has been beaten within an inch of their life?
~
If they really wanted to do a hard hitting video rather than filming in safe areas like White Hart Street it should have been filmed in Castlefield, Micklefield or even the notorious Desborough Road.
~
At a point 2:00 into the video one of the louts spits on the pavement. What a bad example to set. I have a good mind to refer this video showing anti-social behaviour like people spitting on the pavement to the police for their consideration.

What a bunch of softies who didn't even have the guts to film their video in an area affected by the crime which they sing about. Security could have been hired to guarantee the safety of the cast and crew. After filming did they nip around to the local tea shop for a quick bite of strawberry scones and clotted cream?
~
I wonder if those involved actually know what a “drive by” is let alone seeing one actually happen? They probably think a “drive by” is when you nip in to a burger restaurant in your car and place an order from your car window!
~
As a result the video has as much impact as being hit in the face with a wet lettuce leaf.
~
Actual message value of video 0%, hilarity value 100%!

Mr Griffiths was stabbed when he opened the door, but the prosecution said they could not prove which of the three defendants used the knife ".
.
As usual the liar Bigot proves he/she/it does not have a clue what happens in Wycombe and carries on spouting spurious provocative untruths about the town.
This is one of the most recent murders in this town and happened in this very street a few years ago - only a few metres from the photo shown above
.
Unfortunately a young chap (J Griffiths) was murdered in this very street by those 3 evil criminals referred to above.
.
All serving long deserved jail sentences now.
.
As are the 2 men who , a few years ago killed the Asian taxi driver (Mr Mahroof) near the Rye , pretended they wanted a lift then stabbed him - for just his spare change.
.
In the meantime there have been no stabbings , shootings or murders in the Desborough area.

I lived there for years and the community ws alive and kicking when i left.
My Uncle, over 80, remembers the fights in the town centre between rival factions.
I can remember the fights in the town centre in the 70's between rival factions.
My cousin was assaulted in the 1960's.
I've been chased through the high st by shaven headed thugs,
so please tell me, when did this utopian image of wycombe you have exist?
Just trying to say that wycombe is just like any other town, better than most not as good as some.
And just a point of information, when most of the immigration was happening in Liverpool, Ireland was part of britain.

I don't have a utopian image of wycombe in my head, that's the whole point....
Why would I want to live in the East End. It's a statement of multicultural failure. The English community have been ethnically cleansed from Tower Hamlets and Hackney and now exist in pockets here and there. Tower Hamlets is like being in Bangladesh, and non-muslims are frequently attacked around there.
As for the Krays, they were East End born and bred, but they weren't English. They were a mixture of Romany, Irish and Jewish...

And melody with a few actual notes ? - based on more than just 3 basic chords repeated boringly over and over (on the expensive machines)
.
And human rhythms played by people (not on other expensive machines)
.
And words / lyrics (in English not transatlantic) that can be discerned , make sense and are articulate. I suppose rhyming properly would be too much to ask.
.
And movement / gestures that have some meaning to everybody - not just to self-selecting club members (Is it a secret society like the Masons ?)
.
I mean people's music like Punk used to be - the good old days - at least that wasn't dubbed and wasn't badly mouth-synced and was sung by non-actors who worked at ordinary jobs .
.
Otherwise I would think it's absolutely fantastic. But unfortunately I still can't whistle it.

These kids want to be in gangs and they want people to think they are in gangs. That way they're closer to the morons who provide the terrible music they listen to.
Hopefully they'll all start to grow out of it once they get the weewee ripped out of them in the adult world.
