A BEACONSFIELD man could be DIY’s answer to Mr Muscle after he scooped the top prize in a national competition.
Ross Millar has been crowned the 'Ultimate Polyfella’ by home improvement firm Polycell - which called him an "unsung hero" after searching the nation for men who take pride in their Do-It-Yourself skills.
Ross, 22, who works as a pub manager at the Red Lion in Penn, is a self-admitted DIY perfectionist who enjoys revamping things.
After being taught by his dad, Ross takes on projects ranging from fixing a few broken tiles in his bathroom to renovating the back of an old ice-cream van for a new business venture.
Judges said he has previously stayed up overnight to get a job done, while he has contributed to the furniture at the Red Lion by building chairs, tables and even a chandelier.
Ross said: "I didn’t even know I’d been nominated....It’s great being rewarded for something I love doing.
"At a pretty young age my dad and I used to build tree houses from scratch and he taught me a lot of the basics along the way."
"I’ve made a few DIY blunders over the years and I’ve learnt that when faced with a project, regardless of how simple, if you don’t know how to do something, it’s well worth doing some research before you start the job...I use YouTube videos and DIY magazines."
Matt Gray, Polycell decorating expert, said: "We feel that Ross epitomises a Polyfella. Ross doesn’t take short-cuts, he takes pride in his work - always making sure he does a proper job.
"Ross seems to take DIY in his stride and always mucks in where necessary. We wanted to reward Ross for his dedication to DIY, he clearly is an unsung hero."
Ross has won prizes worth more than £1,000.
