Is Redgrave in running to light Olympic flame?
LEGENDARY Marlow athlete Sir Steve Redgrave is reportedly in the running to light the Olympic flame at London 2012’s opening ceremony in two weeks time.
The Daily Mail reports today that honour is likely to go to either the five-time gold medal winning rower or another of Britain’s most successful Olympians, Daley Thompson, who twice won gold in the decathlon.
However, the report adds that while the British Olympic Association is understood to favour Sir Steve, LOCOG chair Lord Coe is believed to prefer Thompson, with whom he reputedly enjoys a warmer relationship.
