SUPPORTERS packed into Wye Valley School for Bourne End Junior Sports Club’s annual prizegiving.

The event on July 6 was the club’s way of celebrating the wide range of sports offered to young people in their hall off New Road.

The club started in 1970 and the sports hall was built in 1982. Over the years it has been updated and improved with the latest addition being the installation of solar panels which they hope will halve their electricity costs over future years.

Wycombe racing driver and former Wye Valley pupil Tom Ingram, 19, was this year’s special guest.

He was delighted to present around 98 awards during the evening, saying afterwards how important it was for youngsters to enjoy what they were doing and to work hard at their sport.

Highlights of the evening were the presentation of a league winners trophy to the club's U14 football team, while club secretary Ken Murphy received a special award for his contribution over the last 20 years – ensuring the smooth participation of the club’s teams in their various leagues.

He has also been a key part of the club's football section, as well as being a link with the parish council and the cricket club to progress the refurbishment of the sports pavilion in Wooburn Park.

With cheers of approval Joe Lawrie and Ellie Couves, both 17, retained the Club Boy and Club Girl awards.
