Wooburn murder trial: jury considering verdict

THE jury in the murder trial of Wooburn Green lorry driver John McGrory has been sent out to consider its verdict.

Her Honour Judge Smith told the 12 jurors at Reading Crown Court to set aside any sympathies they may feel for victim Marie McMgrory, or for the defendant himself, adding: “You must decide clearly and dispassionately on the evidence."

She told the group to try to reach a unanimous verdict and "when it comes to the facts of this case it’s your judgement alone that counts”.

McGrory, 46, has admitted strangling his wife with a dog lead at their Holtspur Avenue home on January 3 this year - the morning after she returned from seeing another man in Scotland.

But the ex-army serviceman denies murder, telling the court on Monday he cannot remember the killing.
