THIRTY-two drivers were stopped for speeding during a short police operation around Princes Risborough – with one now facing a court appearance.

Six got fined and received three points on their licences.

Officers were in Ellesborough Road between 7.30am and 9am on Tuesday and Thame Road, Longwick, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm after complaints from pedestrians, various organisations and residents about excessive speed.

A driver travelling at 51mph - the fastest speed recorded - was reported for court.

In total, 32 motorists were stopped.

Six drivers received Fixed Penalty Notices of £60 plus three points on their licences and 20 were sent on a speed awareness course.

Five drivers were given a fine of £60 for seat belt offences.

PC Andy Ralph, from the Princes Risborough neighbourhood policing team, said: “The neighbourhood policing team are committed to helping make the town and local village’s safer places to travel and have further speed enforcement operations planned in the future.”

Quite ironic: below the article an ad "by Google" - Caught Speeding: Avoid fine and points .... perhaps the BFP should review their web advert policy?
Apart from that, we all know what the speed limits are. It's cheaper to stick to the limits...

Very pleasing to see that the roads are being made safer for other road users - pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders etc as well as other car drivers. Well done to the police and greater Princes Risborough community

Easy targets. Time to put realistic speed limits in place and leave the police to catch criminals.

These same police officers will get in their cars and drive over the limit themselves.

*Yawn* When will people realise that speed does kill? A motorist who speeds, who does not wear a seatbelt or uses a mobile phone deserves to be fined.

We all know the law - if you dont want to get caught, dont speed!

I wonder if you would still have the same opinion if you had lost a loved one as a result of some numpty like the ones detailed above speeding through a 30mph limit and ploughing into someone you care about!?

And what an interesting comment you make about the old bill speeding themselves, can you provide me with the official statistics for that?

Can you provide a link to the number of accidents where speeding was a direct cause? I suspect not because we know that speed doesn't kill, innapropriate speed can kill. If speed killed then I for one would be dead!

Ah I will take that as you not being able to back up your comments then?

Simply google all about safety partnerships, speed awareness and many other websites.

And of course speed kills! Hitting a wall at 15mph compared to 40mph will make a rather big difference - the same goes for a vehicle hitting a pedestrian at different speeds.

I think you also need to remember once again - if you dont wish to get caught speeding, dont do it in the first place.

The police were there as it states in the article after complaints from the community and people living in the area.

Yet all TVP_SouthBucks do is tweet all the time instead of policing.

For an area ripe for policing try Marlow Bottom Road. The morning Mummy Death race to the schools is only superseded by the afternoon one.

The Evening rush hour drag race beggars belief, as does the late evening hook patrol.

Yet again, TVP_SouthBucks is no where to be seen.

Even as the residents of Marlow Bottom have voted for speed-display signs which shows how concerned locals are. Nothing happens.

Quite a complex issue this.
It is true to say that if a kid runs out into the road and gets hit by a car going at 40mph the consequences would be worse than if the car was travelling at 20mph. However, it is also possible that had the same car travelled at 50mph it could have been past the point where the kid ran into the road, and no accident would occur!

In my view motorcyclists generally flout the law far more than car dirivers, even though the rider is more vulnerable.
And people using the phone while driving should be banned for a month minimum. i nearly collided with a moron the other day who was phoning while driving and completely cut the corner ending up on my side of the road.

You'd have to be a complete idiot to hit the wall in the first place.

If speed kills, is it dangerous to drive on a section of motorway (that's been legally closed especially for this purpose) at 100mph?

The slower a car is travelling, the lesser the chance of an accident, and and the lesser chance of it being serious. All travel involves taking a risk, where do we draw the line. If we reduce speed limits cars travel in lower, more polluting gears and everyday quality of life for most of us is adversly affected.

I didn't realise gears could pollute ;)
