COUNTRY sports fans bemoaning the cancellation of the biggest event on their calendar have cause for celebration after a south Bucks club stepped in to save the day.

The E.J. Churchill Shooting Ground in Lane End is putting on its own event - and they’ve had just six days to organise it - after the huge CLA Game Fair in Leicestershire was axed due to the ‘summer’ weather.

The fair will feature a host of shooting competitions, 4x4 off-roading, helicopter tours of the Chilterns, archery, stalls, artists and more.

Managing director Rob Fenwick said: “We must be mad - we think we’re going to have anywhere between 500 and 1,000 people here.

“The CLA was only cancelled on Thursday so we’ve not got long to put it together but it is going well so far.

“But the CLA is such a big event for country gaming industry, it affects peoples’ livelihoods, so we just wanted to support the industry.”

The free event will be held at the shooting ground in Park Lane, Lane End, between 9am and 5pm on Friday and Saturday.

Well done Rob & Jane! Great effort that will be appreciated by local guns
Good coverage in BFP might attract some non-shooters as well just to see what it's all about, and why we enjoy it so much...

500 to 1000 dangerous lunatics. Every single one of them will be wearing camouflage. Odds on that at least 10 people there have killed - not including wars.

Oh dear!
Not sure that farmers and the upper classes wear camouflage when clay pigeon shooting, and I'd bet that far more than 10 of the 'lunatics' have killed...... but killed pheasants and other game.
