Charity thanks youngsters with mountain rescue day

THE Child Bereavement Charity collaborated with the charities of both Prince William and Harry to take Bucks youngsters on a mountain rescue day.

The charity, which is based in Saunderton, took nine youngsters to the Lake District to take part in a mountain rescue day.

They took part in activities such as mountain rescue and abseiling, as well as getting a tour of RAF helicopter, The Sea King.
 

Mina Aldred, 12, from High Wycombe, said she really enjoyed the day and also managed to conquer her fear of abseiling.

The opportunity for the trip came about as part of collaborative work between Prince William’s and Prince Harry’s charities; the Duke of Cambridge has been a patron of the charity since 2009.

The charity offers support to families through the difficult time when a child dies or when a child is bereaved.

The nine young people invited on the trip are part of the Child Bereavement Charity’s Young People’s Advisory Group, who give bereaved young people the chance to talk, share experiences and develop material to help others. The group is supported by teachers, parents and friends.

Victoria Young, a youth worker at the Child Bereavement Charity said: "The young people were all really brave and encouraging to one another, and really enjoyed themselves. We all got a lot out of the experience which will stay with us for a long time to come."
