Travellers move onto Kingsmead ground Travellers move onto Kingsmead ground

TRAVELLERS have moved onto the Kingsmead park in Loudwater this afternoon.

Six caravans and other vehicles have been moved onto the ground by the London Road side of the park. Wycombe District Council has been informed.

One of the travellers called Grace, who did not wish to give her surname, said they had come from Poole and planned to stay for a week or so.

She said there are six families of about 12 adults and 10 children.

Grace said: "It is nice. It is going to be hot tomorrow so we needed to find somewhere nice."

If they wish to drop out of society then they are free so to do. BUT they must not break the law, trespass or put their hands out for benefits from the law abiding, hardworking majority.

I am going to make sure that my premises are secure.

Yeah its gonna be nice for all of us weather wise - just that most of us will stay where we are, paying our taxes, tidying our own rubbish away and making sure our hard earned goods are not pilfered away by some tax dodging caravan habiting low life.

I have no idea re the crime etc - all I know is that they make a mess.
I don't think they would have half the opposition if they respected the area they went to, and tidied up after themselves.
But the rubbish that they leave is disgusting - and then they expect others to tidy up after them.

They are right outside my flat and are noisy and totally disrespectful they have dogs running around and they are not picking up after them and they were driving around the park. How on earth did they get in they must have broke the lock there is also more of them at cressex in a carpark that has height restriction barriers and caravans shouldn't fit under them unless they tampered with them they are disrespectful and need to move on

I have already heard negative feedback on this group from several nearby homeowners.
I wonder how interested VOSA would be in some tax cross-referencing and vehicle inspection.
I'll give you 15 to 1 if all of the vehicles are displaying valid tax!

Maybe so but given that "travellers" represent less than 2% of the population, this means that they are statistically more likely to commit criminal offences than anyone else.

this is interesting- many moons ago my late hubby was plumbing a bungalow close to a camp- all the pipes/ rads /new boiler went missing over 1 week-end from i add a very secure lock up- a police call later to report- but alas nothing appeared so hubby paid a visit to said campment- with a jcb- and pulled up at first caravan asking for his heating materials to be returned- foloed by if they dont this caravan is going to rock and roll and he meant it- needless to say most not all materials appeared if by magic- of course no 1 new anything- my hubby was charged with criminal intent which was later dropped- a case of 1 law to 1 and a 1 law to another???

Object to their behaviour, object to their lifestyle choices, but when you start using phrases like 'Pykie' and 'Scum' 'thieving scum bags' then you cross a line. None of you would dream of using the same names in reference to other minorities (at least not on here). There is no where for them to go,they are pushed from pillar to post, ostracised, villified by our 'civilsed society'. Use the powers that be to get them shifted, campaign for somewhere for them to move to,or for changes in the law, but name calling is the behaviour of the playground, you should be ashamed.

By the comment, this looks like the lot we have entertained here in Dorset.

Prediction. They will leave a unholy mess, which the Council Tax payers in High Wycombe will have to foot the bill.

It is really about time that there with strictly enforced laws stopping this from happening. Comments like sai-diva above are wrong headed. How would he/she like unauthorised "visitors" on their land?

Kingsmead, in one sense is 'my land' I don't object to the objections,I object to the manner in which they are made.
If you read my post i encourage you to lobby for change using due process, not just hurl abuse
Just out of interest, where would you suggest that they go?

What do you mean 'there is nowhere for them to go'. Many of the Irish Travellers, which I believe the ones up at Cressex are, have their own homes back in Ireland, they are just off for their summer holidays - most caravaners pay fees - not this lot! Some of them have permanent sites but want to travel around causing meyhem, using the bushes and woods as their toilet, dumping their rubbish, and ill treating their dogs.
.
Also ask the people who work at Asda if they are honest, they have to put up with the shoplifting, especially the very young children who are taught to steel from the time they can toddle. I have seen this happen.
.
They are aggressive, the Police refuse to go anywhere near them, HMRC turn a blind eye to them not paying their taxes DVLC don't check to see if their vehicles are taxed.
.
I wonder if you would still feel the same if they set up camp at the bottom of your garden. I very much doubt it.

I totally agree with you sai-diver and that is my point.
Tigerann I am not either of those insulting words you used, neither am I a gypsy or traveller, but I do know many perfectly good kind and law abiding gypsies who I am proud to call friends.
My point is don't name call and insult a whole people group just because there are some bad folks amongst them. otherwise you'd better start looking at your own kind as there are always some who would shame us. Just think back to last August, amongst those rioting were people of all creeds and colours and origins.

Please enlighten me and tell me where I can view the evidence that they all have homes back in Ireland.
You say that 'some' of them have permanent sites, do you know what proportion have a permanent site? what about those who don't, where do they go?There certainly aren't enough sites in bucks for them, and no provision is being made for them either. Are you of the opinion, often voiced on here that travellers should travel?or do you want to see them driven off of the road and onto traveller ghettos? Do please tell me what your solution is to the lack of permanent sites.
I have seen examples of the behaviour you site amongst 'fixed' estate dwellers, are they to be abused as well?
Why ask a question if you already seem to know the answer? Some travellers are lovely some aren't so I can't answer that one.

To those who have posted supporting the "travellers", I would ask the following:-

Would you be happy to have uninvited visitors on your property?

Are you prepared to clean-up the mess that is left behind?

Are you happy that these people think that they are above the law of the land. Laws which most folk observe?

As I previously commented. If they are the same group who have travelled from Dorset, then the High Wycombe local tax payers will have to pay for the clear-up once they have gone. Down here in Dorset they have illegally camped in Portland, Weymouth, Poundbury and Poole - and in each case have left a terrible mess which the Councils and individuals have had to clear up. Is that really fair on the rest of the population?

Regarding comments on where should they go - the majority of these "travellers" are from the the Republic of Ireland. That is their so-called home. Perhaps it is time to introduce passports between the Irish Republic and the United Kingdom?

Firstly sai-diva I did not say that 'they all have homes back in Ireland'. I said that many of the Irish Travellers have homes in Ireland, in fact, if you can believe the media a high percentage of the houses in a town called Rathkeale in Ireland are owned by Travellers who spend their time in the summer months over here and go back to Ireland when the weather gets cold. If you know different please tell me.
.
Secondly, no I don't know what proportion have permanent sites, once again if you believe the media many of them have, but they prefer to travel especially in the summer months. And I don't believe that there is a lack of permanent sites, if you know differently tell me. Also, I do not want my taxes to pay for sites for them, they earn decent money and pay no taxes why should I support them?
.
But perhaps you know some that do pay tax on their earnings, if you do please give me at least one example.
