TWO of south Buckinghamshire’s most popular open spaces have once again landed the prestigious Green Flag award - the gold standard for parks.

The Rye in High Wycombe and Higginson Park in Marlow impressed the judges with their high quality green spaces and activities.

The Green Flag was awarded to a record 1424 parks this year.

The Rye is the second largest open space in the district and now boasts the recently opened Wycombe Rye Lido leisure complex.

Higginson Park has been awarded the flag for the ninth consecutive year and welcomed almost one million visitors in the last 12 months.

Councillor Katrina Wood, WDC’s Cabinet Member for Community, said: "I’m thrilled we can fly the Green Flag at The Rye and we're going to keep the Green Flag flying proudly at Higginson Park.

“It shows everyone who lives here and everyone who visits that these parks are our green glory.

“The flag flying shows people that we've impressed the judges and that our parks are amongst the cream of the crop in the whole country.

“We're justifiably proud of our parks, and flying these flags shows the world that we're running these parks to a high national standard for the enjoyment of local people."
