THOUSANDS lined the streets of Denham yesterday as the Olympic torch passed through the village on one of the final days of its nationwide tour (see video below).

Crowds lined the North Orbital Road in Denham Green to watch as Lianne Corriette and Michael Lyons carried the flame.

Leanne, 30, a charity worker from London who has helped build a school in Cambodia, picked up the torch just after 4pm. Her great-grandfather, Herbert Barnes, was the first torchbearer in Britain the last time the Olympics were held in this country, in 1948.

Michael, 43, from Coleshill, set up the Leicestershire West Board of Young Enterprise, which involved visiting local schools and colleges to act as a mentor to support youngsters through the year-long initiative.

Gerrards Cross resident Denise Lewis, a former Olympic champion, was among the crowd to witness the event.

The torch stopped briefly at Broadwater Park for a private event before heading back down North Orbital Road towards Ealing.
