Plans to expand A&E ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Plans to expand A&E ward at Stoke Mandeville Plans to expand A&E ward at Stoke Mandeville

HEALTH chiefs have submitted plans to expand the A&E department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

The proposal for a single storey extension comes after it was agreed that thousands of emergency patients from the south of Bucks should no longer be seen at Wycombe Hospital  (see related links).

The expansion will cost more than £2 million and include a new CT scanner room, critical decisions unit and resuscitation unit.

The critical decisions unit, an area where patients are monitored for up to 23 hours before being transferred to wards, would have room for 20 patients.

Up to six people would be able to use the resuscitation unit, including one dedicated as a trauma bay.

The extension would be manufactured off site and delivered fully furnished for final assembly.

See related links for more details about the plans, which have been submitted to Aylesbury Vale District Council, as well as background on the changes to hospital services in Bucks.

Won't need it - will be dead by the time one gets there.

Spend the money on Wycombe A&E!

Yet to deliver on Maidenhead's new hospital - one favour to David Liddington done, next one for Theresa May? How much does it take to get a knighthood?

This money could have been spent on doing a nice A&E unit at Wycombe.

This is very true. The money should have been spent on Wycombe's A&E.

We have been shafted full stop!

Doesn’t matter what political colour Government is in power, all of them have now shafted us in Wycombe.

Not long till the bulldozers come rollin' in at this rate.

and where are these "thousands of emergency patients from the south of Bucks" going to park? Hope they're going to include extra parking space in their plans - it's a nightmare trying to park there as it is!

A thousand pities we've lost so much from Wycombe Hospital but IF the expansion at SM goes ahead then we should all grudgingly applaud it. At times SM's casualty dept is under siege from so many people waiting - and waiting - with bleeds, groans and pains. Once saw a scene like this on MASH.
