Plans to expand A&E ward at Stoke Mandeville
HEALTH chiefs have submitted plans to expand the A&E department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
The proposal for a single storey extension comes after it was agreed that thousands of emergency patients from the south of Bucks should no longer be seen at Wycombe Hospital (see related links).
The expansion will cost more than £2 million and include a new CT scanner room, critical decisions unit and resuscitation unit.
The critical decisions unit, an area where patients are monitored for up to 23 hours before being transferred to wards, would have room for 20 patients.
Up to six people would be able to use the resuscitation unit, including one dedicated as a trauma bay.
The extension would be manufactured off site and delivered fully furnished for final assembly.
See related links for more details about the plans, which have been submitted to Aylesbury Vale District Council, as well as background on the changes to hospital services in Bucks.
