Community news for Bourne End, Flackwell Heath, Loudwater and the Wooburns
TICKETS have sold out for BBC Radio 4’s 'Any Questions?' show which will be broadcast live from Bourne End Community Centre this evening from 8pm. The panel includes Simon Heffer of the Daily Mail, Professor Susan Greenfield CBE of Oxford University, Debbie Bannigan of the drug and alcohol recovery charity Swanswell and Sir David Bell, vice chancellor of Reading University and former Chief Inspector of Schools.
WYCOMBE Heights Golf Centre in Loudwater helped raise funds for the Thomas Ball Fund at the annual mascot race at Odds Farm Park in Wooburn Common. Chip maintained his unbeaten run in the event on August 9.
PLANS to build two new homes in Wooburn Green have again been rejected by a council - because they would “compromise” future use of a former railway line. Gerhardt Consulting Ltd’s proposal for land behind 149 Wycombe Lane was refused by Wycombe District Council, which said former rail route between Wycombe and Maidenhead was "safeguarded". A previous scheme to build homes on the land was also rejected last year.
FLACKWELL Heath British Legion has live music tomorrow night with solo singer Adrian performing after 8pm.
HEDSOR Social Club has a dance night tomorrow from 8pm with DJ Jivin’ George. Members £4, non-members £6.
A LANDLORD will hope it is sixth time lucky when it comes to the latest planning application for Chequers Inn pub in Wooburn Common. The pub had a fifth extension plan rejected by councillors earlier this year, despite planning officers recommending it should be approved. The latest proposal also seeks to build 13 new letting rooms at the Kiln Lane site, but the application adds: “A design review has been undertaken of the hotel extension to create a more sympathetic design solution that sits well in its context with the existing Chequer’s Inn and with the local environment.”
