Anti-yob zone trial in Marlow extended

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton, Deputy Area Commander of Thames Valley Police Chief Inspector Colin Seaton, Deputy Area Commander of Thames Valley Police

POLICE have pledged to keep out yobs after announcing a trial to rid Marlow's streets of rowdy behaviour is being extended.

A 'dispersal zone', which gives officers the powers to send away troublemakers with the threat of arrest if they return, will continue until November.

And patrols are being stepped up outside the zone in two streets where anti-social behaviour has increased in recent months.

The zone was introduced around Gunthorpe Road in March for an initial six months.

Families had spoken of the misery caused by yobs, prior to the move.

Police and Wycombe District Council, which have worked jointly to stop residents' lives being blighted, announced it had been successful and has been extended for two more months.

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton, Deputy Area Commander of Thames Valley Police, said: "The dispersal zone is definitely having a positive effect and the number of calls from concerned residents has decreased since this has been in place."

Twenty-two youths were dispersed on five separate occasions in the first four weeks.

Numbers have dropped off since, with the police saying would be troublemakers have got the message, although more detailed statistics were not available this week.

Ch Insp. Seaton said: "We take all reports of anti-social behaviour very seriously across the district and will continue to respond to your concerns and reassure you that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"Officers from the neighbourhood policing team will continue to actively patrol in the area to engage with local residents and ensure that the dispersal order is being adhered to."

Cllr Katrina Wood, Cabinet Member for Community, said: "We are pleased about the extension. Community safety is an ongoing process and although the implementation of a Dispersal Zone has improved the situation, there is more which needs to be done."

There have been increasing reports of anti-social behaviour from householders in Liston Court and Barley Way, outside the zone.

Police have stepped up patrols in the two streets.

Inspector Ray Wilks, based at Marlow police station, said: "In terms of anti-social behaviour, most of the reports we receive are along the lines of children hanging around in Liston Court or in the case of Barley Way it is a private estate and the complaint is usually young people passing through and making noise.

"We do take any complaint in relation to anti-social behaviour seriously and have subsequently focussed our patrols in these areas which has substantially reduced the reports we were getting." The zone remains in force until November 30. Call 101 to report any anti-social behaviour.

I have seen these yobs, a lot af them seem to be of an age where they should either be in a job or if not bettering themselves with further education. I can imagine though that a lot, ok not all, but the vast majority, will come from families on social welfare of whom their parents didnt ever have any respect for descent people and so passed this onto their children. This seems to be an ever increasing problem in Britain, undesiarables breeding prodigeously and getting more money the more children they have, whilst decent, law abiding, working families have to suffer this plague. The sooner benefits are scraped for these people the better.

Yes - scrape their benefits. I myself only just scrape along sometimes.
.
So a bit scraping (preceded by a little bit of token bowing) might possibly do the trick.
.
But I don't think it would work in Marlow. Some of the town is after all in Berks and has a Slough post code. Which should really be a deterrent in itself.

Could we have some anti-yob action in High Wycombe High Street as well please?

And I'm not talking about night-time youth misbehaviour. What I'm talking about is the adult "town drunks" who seem to start their offensive behaviour at about 8:30am.

Whatever happened to the alcohol exclusion zone?

.
Colin Seaton should have said:
" We have spent lots of time and resources and have been successful in moving the trouble fom one area to another".
.
Praise be!

They are not yobs. They are socially deprived as well as intellectually , spiritually challenged (allegedly).
.
However although they are also financially deprived , their fairly incoherent speech patterns are richly endowed with choice swear words although limited to a mere 6 (reportedly).
.
I assume their presence is tolerated in the Town Centre by the Council and the Police as it brings some colour and character into the urban environment.
.
Their fruity language has been learned over the many years by the method of directing random abuse at vulnerable elderly shoppers scurrying by and seeing which causes the most offence / revulsion.
.
Do not expect the wonderful Wycombe Council (or police) to do anything about it as they do not wished to be accused of victimisation / discrimination of various kinds (eg sexism , anti-addict(ism) , anti-littering , ageism , dislike of foul-mouthed abusive vocabulism , trajectory public vomiting(ism) and spitting(ism), incontinence-ism , body odourism etc.
.
The 'authorities' really have to tread a very thin line - or don't they do that with drunks nowadays ?

This is not solving the problem it is just pushing it outside the area you can see. I have already complained a number of times that there now gathering in secluded areas around Marlow High Street and intimidating people walking through.

The Police wont do anything other than just move them around. This country is too soft and not prepared to come down hard on things like this. Perhaps public floggings might change the attitude of some of these?!

You’re telling me.
There are out of control six-foot 12-17 year-old yobs on BMX bikes everywhere round here where there is an open space but to see some of the stuff local women have put here and in petitions you would think it was something to do with beautiful little girls wanting to play with their mummy on a skateboard track with a few miserable Grinch-type adults wanting to repress the little angels.

Shows how little Ray Wilks know to say the kids passing through Liston Court or Barley Way. I know first hand the kids hang around here for an average of 3 hours a night. He can come stand in our kitchen window to see them if he wants!

Line them up and shoot them. Nothing but trouble makers, skum that think nothing about inflicting pain and hardship on others. Of course I am referring to the residents of Marlow. Leave the yobs alone. If they left, you would miss them.

First off I would be willing to go talk to them if i thought it would achieve anything but it is very clear they don't even respect themselves let alone anyone else. I for one am not intimidated by these kids if I was then I would not even be talking about it so openly. If anything I feel sorry for them as there being let down by authorities and just being moved from pillar to post nothing is being done to help them. But there is also no need to behave the way they do none of the other kids who sit around here act in such a yobbish way.

In fact it sounds like you could even be one of their parents if you think this behaviour is acceptable. And I have lived here happy for almost 40 years without them so no I don’t think I would miss them. So thanks for the unconstructive comments.

Ah, we have our socialist, welfare loving, 'I am due the world but not prepared to give anything' Sparky49 gracing our pages!! Of course it is social classes that cause problems!! Lower classes, living off benefits are the cause of most social disorders as they dont work, dont own anything, have nothing else to do all day but sponge off society, get bored and go out and cause trouble! Everyone know that! Crawl back to your council house and give thanks to the rest of the population who work hard to provide you with cheap accommodation!

Actually you are wrong! Practically all of the children in this group come from families with working parents... This being half the problem as they are working hard to provide and therefor unable to take the time off to take them out! Sometimes you just can't win for losing. Yes a majority of them are in social housing, that much is correct, but so am I and my children don't go out causing trouble on the street. Please don't tarnish everyone with the same 'council house' brush.

As for them hanging around Barley Way... Some of the kids are from there hence the attraction!! The estate homes only a few of the group that keep getting in trouble, the rest live in other areas of Marlow and Bourne End... Quite nice that the kids have gone to defecate on their own doorsteps I think!!!

What I also haven't seen is any Police actually doing their job either. The Police station is closed apart from to act as a coffee shop for the odd passing celebratory police - person and if there as crime what do they do - then send out a PCO out to ask if they are doing a good job.

Yes we do have a few idiots that seem to think that a Car with suspension lowered so far that their nick me quick exhaust drags on the ground and wheels lift off when they corners (And I know where one or two of those live and its not in a deprived area of the town either) But what we lack is policing that will actually do something rather than to issue a lot of talk and clamping down of the normally law abiding.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that they should leave an unmarked Police car in the Court Gardens car park after dark some nights or that they should use the information taken from the very expensive and under used camera system they set up all around the town and its car parks to track the culprits but again that would be to much like asking them do Police work instead of Police posturing and posing
