Relaunch cancelled at Nags Head in High Wycombe

THE potential new landlord of The Nags Head has cancelled a planned relaunch festival this weekend due to the problems he has faced moving into the pub.

The Nags Head in London Road has been closed since the last landlord, Marco Iorio, left.

Kevin Sweeney, who runs Beechstock each year, took on the lease of the popular pub from Admiral Taverns.

But he said he has had problems getting into the building to start work- most importantly being that the electricity has been cut off.

There will also be a hearing to review the licence of the premises on September 17 at Wycombe District Council's offices.

Mr Sweeney cancelled this weekend's proposed festival, because he said a generator would be too costly and there were other teething issues.

He said: "We had to come away and fight another day. We have had to cancel the festival.

"I am hoping the pub will not remain closed."

But he said he is still working with the brewery to try and get it up and running.

He hopes to hold a meeting with nearby residents to discuss any issues they may have faced recently.

A Facebook page has been set up called Save The Nags Head, which also links to an online petition.

Mr Sweeney said he wants to offer live music that will appeal to everybody.

A spokesman for Southern Electric, Greg Clarke, said specific information about the pub could not be given but he told the BFP: "All we can do is reiterate the point we would only ever carry out a disconnection as a last resort when we have exhausted all other avenues. In some cases it is necessary whether that be in terms of non payment and another reason and the main reason where safety is an issue."

Why the sarcastic response? Wycombe needs a decent venue for live music. The Nag's has a very good history as well, and from what I understand, has never been the centre of any community issues.

The problem is that a total and complete utter tw@t took it over (Marco Iorio - google him), and has completely ruined the place. Everything the guy touches withers and dies, like the Academy.

The Nag's Head has always been a great venue, helping to launch local bands, and host other national bands. The fact they're trying so hard to re-launch it can only be a good thing.

I fully agree with the above. It seems that whatever this Marco bloke turns his hand to it messes up!

The Nags Head was packed most weekends and never seemed to have any trouble - never any police there etc.

It was a good music venue for all types of people but when this bloke came along it seemed to never be open or when it did it was on an ad-hoc basis which clearly is not the way to bring in trade.

I really hope the new landlord can be given the chance to make a go of it, the demand is definately there.

I wonder if someone fiddled with the electricity supply after it was originally turned off? Surely not!

It was never going to re-launch then as they have had so many complaints about the noise under Marco's management, that the premises licence is up for review later this month. Who would spend money getting the place back to a functioning condition when you could lose your licence the following month.
