Two Marlow restaurants make it into food guide top 50
TWO Marlow restaurants have once again made it into the top 50 in the latest Good Food Guide.
Tom Kerridge’s The Hand and Flowers gastro-pub in West Street is up four places to 36th.
The Michelin Star Adam Simmonds establishment based at Danesfield Hotel is in 13th, dropping one place.
Mr Kerridge, whose eatery has two Michelin stars, has become a familiar face on television, appearing on various shows and winning BBC programme The Great British Menu.
He said: "Just to be on the list it’s fantastic and it’s great for the area."
He attributed his ascent to the concentration and hard work of his team.
"Every day we just try to get better," he said.
The chef-owner said other commitments do not get on the way of his cooking and he spends most days of the week in the kitchen. "But I try to take Sundays off," he said.
Amongst his other commitments, Mr Kerridge has recently taken part on the series seven of the Great British Menu. This year, for the first time, he appeared as a judge, not as a contestant.
The series went on air earlier on this year and the theme was The Olympic Feast. Chefs were challenged to push boundaries and to be innovative. "As long as there is a happy balance between great produce and new ideas, you need things like that to drive the industry forward," Mr Kerridge said.
Personally though, he said: "I am all about trying to find the best produce I can possibly find and cook it very simply."
The chef also attributed part of his success to the welcoming atmosphere of his pub. The complete Good Food Guide will be available from September 3. It is still unknown if other Bucks businesses will be featuring amongst the 100 names. Mr Kerridge added: "The more people around here are doing great food, the better. It encourages people to come to the area."
