Former High Wycombe scouts reunite to mark milestone
MEMORIES came flooding back as former scouts reunited to mark the 40th anniversary of their old unit.
Ex members of the Nimrod Venture Scout Unit in Totteridge met up again for the first time in years to celebrate the landmark
Their hairstyles and clothes may have changed from 1972, when the unit was set up by John Fisher and Bill Wright, but that didn't stop them from celebrating in the traditional scouting manner.
Around 20 former members marked the anniversary by camping out on the village green at Weston-on-the-Green in Oxfordshire over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Members came back for the party from Spain, Belgium, Scotland and several other towns from across England.
Former scout Barry Walton, who now lives in Northamptonshire, said: "Lots of people hadn't seen each other for getting on for 15-20 years. Seeing how people had moved on and what their memories were was wonderful.
"People brought lots of old photos with them and everyone was going, 'Oh my God, I didn't realise I once got into a shirt that small'. All the memories started coming back.
"We're aiming to start doing it every five years but everyone seems to be keen on the idea of meeting up regularly."
The group was for youngsters aged 15 to 21 who enjoyed rock climbing, caving, camping and canoeing, and they would meet every Friday night at Kings Wood School on Hollis Road.
