Gillan goes in cabinet reshuffle
CHERYL Gillan has lost her cabinet position in today's reshuffle.
The Chesham and Amersham MP was one of three cabinet ministers to lose their positions, with Mrs Gillan being booted out of her role as Welsh Secretary.
She will be replaced by Clwyd West MP David Jones, who has served under her as a junior minister for the previous two years.
Prime Minister David Cameron made the news official today, hours after Mrs Gillan had tweeted she was 'signing off' from her cabinet role as Welsh Secretary.
She wrote: "Great privilege to serve in cabinet but can serve party from back benches too :)".
The 60-year-old sent the tweet from the Welsh Secretary account and told followers to start following her on her personal account.
Baroness Warsi and Caroline Spelman were the other two casualties of the reshuffle.
HS2 campaigners will hope Mrs Gillan's demotion from the cabinet will enable her to speak more freely about her opposition to the project.
Of equal significance is the news Justine Greening will be replaced as Transport Secretary by former Chief Whip Patrick McLoughlin.
