Extra police in Marlow this weekend following brawl
12:38pm Friday 7th September 2012 in News By Simon Farr
EXTRA police officers will be patrolling the streets of Marlow this weekend after a man was hospitalised following a brawl last week.
Thames Valley Police says the additional officers are there to “reassure the Marlow community” after a six-man scrap in Spittal Street in the early hours of last Sunday morning shocked the town.
Ch Insp Colin Seaton said: “Please don’t feel concerned if you see additional officers in the area this weekend as we will be conducting extra patrols to offer reassurance to the Marlow community.
“The officers will be there to interact and engage with members of the public, so if you have any questions or queries, then please do not hesitate to ask.”
It resulted in a 24-year-old man being initially admitted to Wexham Park Hospital in a serious condition, but police say he is now stable. He was released from hospital today.
Police are continuing their witness appeal to the brawl, with officers keen to speak to a woman who they believe was in the area at the time.
Det Sgt Richard Earl, investigating officer, said: “It was a particularly busy evening and I am sure there are people who saw what happened, and have not yet spoken to the police.
“For us to be able to carry out a thorough investigation, we need anyone with information about the incident, to come forward and speak to us.
“I would also like to appeal directly to a woman called Racquel who I believe could have been in the area at the time and have important information to help with our inquiry.”
Contact police on the 101 enquiry line or, if you do not want to speak to the police, contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It seams that we must all live in some sort of sanitized bubble where no one ever breaks any rules (either legal or social) where we all sip tea while doffing our caps to the well to do and authority, making sure we thank them all profusely for just being there.
The fact is that some times not so nice things happen and unless every possible person is personally supervised and watched, where drink and drugs are not only abolished but eradicated completely and every youth is sent for mind correction (just in case they think things that may be someone thought to be out of the norm or anti social) then there will be the occasional social problem.
Some years ago there was a Photo circulating (and I wise I find a copy of it again) showing Quointing Square. It was taken in the early 1930s and there was more than 20 people taking part in a mass brawl while the police stood about watching and picked up the casualties in a horse drawn paddy wagon. And that was the supposed good old days.
What we need is a proper police presence in the town, a Police station that is open to the public and not just a phone line where the operator fobs you off with some sort of obscure excuse why the police are unavailable and a sensible drinks policy
