Hazlemere road name winner awarded prize
A ROAD in Hazlemere has a new name following a competition run by the parish council.
At last week's Hazlemere Parish Council meeting the winner of its Name the Road competition was presented with his prize by chairman David Brown.
Daniel Hatfield took first prize after coming up with the idea of Barn Lane for the road leading to the parish council offices.
He won a digital camera, memory card and camera case - just pipping his brother Jack and six other runners-up to the first prize.
The runners up all received a prize of a selection of sweets.
The background to the competition surrounds the road leading to the parish council office at Cedar Barn, St James Court care home and the Edmund Campion Church, which was never named - resulting in emergency service vehicles struggling to find the care home quickly and visitors to events at Cedar Barn often arriving late after similarly struggling to find the road.
Councillors were asked to vote on the winner.
A street name sign will now be put up at the entrance to the road and it is hoped that Daniel will be able to cut a ribbon to officially open the newly named Barn Lane.
