Wycombe Labour leader to swap WDC for Reading MP post?

Wycombe Labour leader to swap WDC for Reading MP? Wycombe Labour leader to swap WDC for Reading MP?

THE Leader of the Wycombe Labour group could turn her back on local politics and stand in the next General Election in Reading.

Cllr Victoria Groulef, who represents the Disraeli ward for Wycombe District Council, is expected to cross the Bucks/Berks border to stand for election in the Reading West constituency.

But the former BBC employee, who owns Bourne End-based Saumarez Lingerie, has stressed that she is still very much focused on her current role.

She told the BFP: “It will not come as any surprise to anyone if and when I put in an application for Reading West, but it really is early days.

“My priority is to do the job I’ve been elected to do, which is to represent the people of the Disraeli ward and lead the Wycombe Labour party.”

Cllr Groulef stormed on to the district council last year with 711 votes, a handful behind her Labour colleague Cllr Khalil Ahmed.

The party kicked off its selection process for the Reading constituencies this week by inviting nominations, with the country expected to go to the polls in 2015.

As a resident of the Disraeli Ward from 15 years, I have seen a few councillors that have been elected to represent the ward but I have found them to be nothing but useless. They showed up before the elections and then you never heard from them or about them for 4 years. I have seen her and her fellow councilor at the local Disraeli Schoool and in the ward quite regularly. I think many will agree that things have been done within the ward with regards to improving housing and environmental issues. Having witnessed her action at a Full Council meeting during the Red Kite transfer debate, I thought she was brilliant.
Although I had considered not voting anymore, she has convinced me that there still are people out there who care and and are worthy of being elected to represent the working class and the less privileged. Although very good as a councillor and I think she will make an even better MP.

Vicky Groulef is one of the brightest and hard working Councilors that Wycombe Labour has had represent it. Since her arrival a few years back the District Council has discovered what it is to have an effective opposition. She researches her arguments fully and speaks very effectively.
If she is elected in Reading she will be a great constituency MP and Wycombe will be the poorer for her loss.
Having said that I wish her well and join many others in wishing her success.

I am glad to see her go. The less Labour influence around the area the better. I am sure the Labour party was created soley to destroy England. They nearly suceeded but luckily were kicked out before the final blow was administered! What a destructive and utterly devestating influence a socialists government has always had on this country. Nothing but Gimme, Gimme, Gimme attitude.

I think people are just being unfair about Victoria Groulef. If anybody wants to see this lady in action just attend one of the full council meetings and see it for yourself. When she fires from all cylinders, tory councillors knees wobble like jelly. She is smart, intelligent, and hardworking and people of Reading will be proud to have an MP of her calibre. So let us park our judgements and let this lady do what she is good at 'to serve the community'. Like many people I wish her good luck with her new challenge.
