POLICE have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after a car numberplate and fuel were stolen.

A plate taken from a parked car was later transferred to another vehicle, which was used during the theft of fuel from a High Wycombe petrol station.

The numberplate was stolen from a car parked in Askett, near Princes Risborough, between 5-8pm on Wednesday August 29. Between 8-8.30pm the same day a silver convertible Mini with the stolen number plates was filled with fuel at the Esso Garage in New Road, High Wycombe. The driver left without paying.

Thames Valley Police have today made an appeal for information and have released the CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the offences.

Sgt Andrew Deane, from the Princess Risborough neighbourhood policing team, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who can help identify the man in the CCTV image, or if you saw someone tampering with number plates on a vehicle in Princess Risborough."

Anyone with information should call Sgt Deane on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org .

I think it better before they fitted anti syphon trap in filler pipe or cars, at least then they normally took the fuel and left the fuel tank in tact but now they puncture the fuel tank to get the fuel, fuel tank costs a lot to replace.
I must get the security screws fitted onto my number plates as I go out through night for a breathe of air and always look for fuel leaking and number plates, I used to worry about catalyser but I think the peugeot 1.4HDi fitted high up behind grille they may be put off and go for easier ones, I hope. I can really see things getting worse.

could not agree more Judge. Tea leaf however tones down the reality ... he is nothing more than a thief. Police have to refer to this as bilking, (driving off having not paid for petrol) which is part of the theft act, same as TWOC (taking a vehicle without consent ) ie theft.... commited by a thief. So let's get away from this namby-pamby, gentile language ... string the thieving basta*ds up !!

The annoying issue here is that "Bilkings" could be stopped overnight by one simple thing - pre payment.

When you want fuel instead of paying afterwards you simply pay before hand for the amount you want, the member of staff will input this amount and if you tried to go over it then the pump cuts out.

Petrol retailers say that they cannot do this because if they did they would loose custom from the people buying other goods??? How an earth does that make sense? People would still have to come in to the store to pay!

Also, these multi billion pound companies moan about bilkings and yet look at the state of the CCTV provided to police - that is one of the better samples! How are they supposed to catch people when sometimes you cannot even make out peoples faces? If the petrol companies want to stop bilkings then do something about it instead of moaning about it!
