'Frankenstein festival has great potential'

A HORROR festival in Marlow, inspired by the town's link to Frankenstein, has great potential, says the man behind the idea.

Marlow Town Councillor Roy Cadman recently suggested Mary Shelley's classic gothic novel should be the centrepoint of a new event.

Shelley and husband Percy Bysshe, another renowned literary name, lived in Marlow in the 1800s and part of Frankenstein was written there.

Cllr Cadman said: "I believe it has the potential to become a major British literary and film festival, but as such, it would be quite beyond the scope of Marlow Town Council."

He warned skilled professional organisers would be required and experts from organisations such as the British Film Institute and the British Library.

He said: "However, such grand designs can start small. Marlow already has venues and hotels to cope.

"What is needed is a group of enthusiasts to form a working party to investigate and hopefully set in motion Marlow’s first Frankenstein Festival."

A literary festival is already on the table as a proposal as part of Marlow's new ten year plan.

Window dressing from Marlow Town Council as per usual, Basically they are saying we want a festival we can't be bothered to organise it. Makes them feel like they are doing something even though they arn't.
