LEGENDARY former Wanderers manager Martin O'Neill is back at Adams Park tonight as part of the club's 125th anniversary celebrations.

He will be back for an evening of celebration and nostalgia 125 years to the day Blues played their first ever game.

Now manager of Sunderland, O'Neill twice led Wanderers to promotion and was a Wembley winner three times, twice in FA Trophy finals and once in a play-off final.

A number of ex players, including Keith Scott, will also be there for a Q and A session.

Scott said: "He made me in terms of my career. I've got a lot to thank him for. He's great to be around, he's a really nice bloke and always willing to talk."

Despite the passage of time since he last played under O'Neill, Scott says he still calls him boss whenever he speaks to him.

He said: "There's two managers I refer to as gaffer and Martin O'Neill is one, with John Gorman the other. They had the biggest influence on my playing career.

"I've got the utmost respect for them as managers. They treated you the way you wanted to be treated, as adults."

Martin was and still is a great soccer manager. An excellent manager of footballing men and a wise ,thoughtful tactician. He has made mistakes like everybody does but never blustered or blamed his players (occasionally the ref though - and sometimes that's valid also.)
.
Also he's not a bragger or liar or foul-mouthed or violent or given to tantrums or obsessed with their own image and the media like a lot of 'top' managers. He's a honest straight talker and and does not tolerate crooks or cheats whether they are on the board or in the team.
.
It was a sad for Wycombe Wanderers when he left for higher things. It seems so long ago now.

That should have been -
.
'a sad day for Wycombe Wanderers' NOT ' Assad for Wycombe Wanderers'
.
Though anything is possible in these hired-gun dodgy money funded days of the English Football League
