Poor cycling prompts new training centre in High Wycombe
11:00am Saturday 22nd September 2012 in News By Paul Wright
POOR cycling and a lack of training have been targeted by Wycombe’s largest driving school as they launched a new cycle training centre on Monday.
Audrey Wixon, owner of the Wycombe Driving School, said the opening of the new centre was driven by complaints from its own instructors and pupils.
She said: "According to the Transport Research Laboratory about half of all collisions between bikes and cars are the fault of the cyclist. But while drivers have to pass a test, only one in 100 cyclists enrols on a training course. This may be partly due to a lack of training availability, so now we are doing our bit to solve that problem."
With fully qualified national standard cycling instructors, Wycombe Cycle Training offers private lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced level cyclists as well as Bikeability courses for schools and clubs in the area.
