LEGENDARY former Wanderers manager Martin O'Neill was given a rapturous reception by fans at a celebratory evening to mark the club's 125th anniversary last night.

O'Neill was given a standing ovation into and out of the Vere Suite at Adams Park for a night of reminiscing as the club celebrated the major landmark.

Now manager of Premier League Sunderland, the charismatic Ulsterman took Blues into the Football League and led them on three trips to Wembley stadium during his spell in charge.

He told the Bucks Free Press afterwards: "It was a great evening, I enjoyed it.

"I was apprehensive about it because I never like revisiting places too often.

"Tonight, because it was 125 years to the day they played their first football match, it's historic enough. At least I'm part of Wycombe Wanderers' history.

"It was five years of my life and a great five years. I've seen people in the front row I haven't seen for years."

Several of O'Neill's former players, including Keith Scott, Paul Hyde, Keith Ryan and Steve Brown, were also at the event.
