A CLASSICAL music concert will launch a week of celebration in Bourne End this weekend as a community group marks its 50th anniversary.

Bourne End Community Association was established in 1962 with the aim of building a community centre - a feat achieved in Wakeman Road five years later.

Villagers John Timewell, the conductor, and orchestra leader Muriel Carpenter believe the programme they have arranged for their annual concert will be a fitting start to the celebrations.

The music will include Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien, Copland’s Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo.

Soprano Lori Lynn, who had proved a hit at past concerts, will sing again this year. The concert is at the community centre on Sunday, October 7 at 7.45pm. Tickets are still available at £10 each from the centre office, Breeze on The Parade or by phoning 01628 522854.

Then, throughout the week there will be events each evening including an exhibition of old photographs and the On Target Quiz.

A Finale Party on Saturday,October 13 will include dining and dancing with live band Soundtrax featuring the sounds of the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond. Tickets are £25 from the centre office or email 50years@bebca.org.uk or office@bebca.org.uk
