EIGHT keen cyclists pedalled their way into local history as the first to ride a new cycleway across the South Bucks district.
The Beeches Cycleway, a 12-mile route which connects beauty spots from Black Park to Dorney Lake, was officially opened last week.
The route is aimed at leisure cyclists and was the idea of the Beeches Local Area Forum – a Bucks County Council committee which includes district and parish councillors.
Nearly £8,000 has been spent to put up route direction signs and lay road markings - the equivalent of 40p per resident in that area.
Forum chairman Trevor Egleton said: “The new cycleway is a great way to get families out and about to explore our fantastic country parks, Stoke Common and Burnham Beeches.
“More than this, its link with Dorney Lake makes it a great Olympic and Paralympic heritage project.”
The cycleway was suggested by three local cyclists who were among those to christen the route - forum member Ralph Bagge, Bikeability instructor Steve Roberts and Nick West-Oram, who works for Get Berkshire Active.
It starts in Black Park, Wexham and passes through Fulmer, Stoke Common, the outskirts of Stoke Poges, Farnham Common, Burnham Beeches, Burnham and Taplow, before joining a National Cycle Network route 4 to Dorney Lake.
