High Wycombe motorcyclist dies after hitting rock in road

A ROCK left in the middle of the road appears to have caused the death of a motorcyclist in High Wycombe this morning, police have said.

The rider, a 52-year-old High Wycombe man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened in Daws Hill Lane in the early hours of this morning.

Officers from Thames Valley Police were called at 6.30am after the man, who was riding a blue Honda CBR motorbike, was found by a member of the public.

Police say that while the investigation remains at an early stage it appears a large rock had been placed in the road, which the motorcycle struck.

Officers have made an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who was in the area prior to 6.30am and has any information about the collision, or who saw any suspicious activity, should contact Sgt Grant Thomas of the Road Death Investigation Unit on 101, quoting URN 715 7/10.

If you don't want to speak directly to the police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

I hope this is not a new idiotic craze like throwing objects off bridges, if so the law should come down on them will full force.

The full force of the law would probably involve a trip,to the local safari park!

The responsibility for diversions for a long term closure (A number of hours) is that of Bucks CC highways team not the police.

The police role is to investigate a possible crime by closing the road and creating a sterile work area NOT to worry about other people having to get from A to B.

Unfortunately there are is not an endless supply of police officers to call upon when something like this happens as there are other 999 calls to respond to as well.

A truly terrible incident in which my thoughts go out to the victims family :(

The police were at the road closure all day and dispite whose responsibility it is the excision was still made to divert traffic from a busy road down a single track road, and although it is the road users responsibility to plan a route from a to b, if they are diverted by an official person that organisation should then take ownership of that decision

I was affected by this road closure and was heading towards Daw's Lane from Flackwell Heath - I had to turn around and went down Abbey Barn Lane towards the London Road - where the traffic lights were not working at the Retail Park. London Road was crazy for a Sunday.

Even though it was a pain and I had a screaming 3yr old in the back - I went the very long way to get back to Cressex.

Yes it was inconvenient for all - but I could tell that something serious had happened along Daws Hill Lane, also being a motorbike rider - my thoughts go to the family.

:o(

A very sad and tragic end of life.

I hope that no-one placed that rock in the road on purpose because that would be just SICK and evil.

No, I get your point completely; you care more about your life having to suffer a minor inconvenience than you do about a rider losing his life (murdered, as it turns out.)

No as it happens mr Brooke's I don't care more about my inconvenience as my handle stats I am a recovery driver and am very aware that in the instance of a fatality SOCO ( not csi we're not in America ) is required I on quite a regular occurrence have to attend this sort of accident even sometime with blood still runny, and if you bothered to read my post you will see it states that my thoughts goto his family, my gripe is why the police diverted the traffic down a single track road

So get off your high horse

Why are people assuming that a large boulder ( rock ) was placed in the road. The amount of speed humps in that short distance have been causing damage to vehicals all the time, All it would have taken is a truck carrying a load of rubble and rocks to go over one of these speed humps, Boulder bounces of the back, Result one large rock in the road, This i see is more likely the cause,
