Motorcyclist death: Concrete block deliberately placed in road, say police

A POLICE chief says the concrete block which caused the death of a motorcyclist on Sunday was deliberately moved into the road.

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton, Wycombe’s deputy area commander, is urging who ever placed the block into the middle of Daws Hill Lane to hand themselves in.

The 52-year-old High Wycombe rider hit the heavy brick and came off his blue Honda CBR bike near the former RAF Daws Hill base at 6.30am yesterday, police said. He died at the scene.

Ch Insp Seaton said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family at this time.

"I would like to not only appeal on behalf of the police, but the family and the community, for the person responsible to come forward.”

Insp Paul Winks, head of Thames Valley Police’s road deaths investigation unit, said officers were busy combing through CCTV footage.

He is urging any passers-by that saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area between midnight on Saturday and 6.30am on Sunday, or may have heard anyone talking about the incident, to come forward.

He said: "It appears a person, or persons, have moved a concrete brick from the verge and put it in the centre of the carriageway.

"It could not have rolled or moved without human intervention. It was embedded in the verge to prevent people from parking.

"The block is about 12 inches by 12 inches and probably used to hold a metal post. You would certainly have to lift it with two hands and you wouldn’t be able to move it very far, in this case about eight feet.

"This is very tragic, a man has lost his life. If anyone has any information about this, it doesn’t matter how insignificant, please come forward as it might be vital to our investigation."

I wonder how many cars drove round this before the accident...may give the police a better time frame to work to if they knew???

I live on the main road in Flackwell and plenty of cars travel along that road in the early hours. Im sure somebody must have seen the block prior to the incident. If they failed to stop and move it they should feel ashamed of themselves.

Murder by any other name...

It might be difficult to prove murder as opposed to manslaughter. They would have to prove intent to kill as opposed to intent to harm?

There are obviously some very sick people around. What a dreadful waste of a life. I feel so sorry for the man's family.

It probably started out as an attempt to throw the block over the bridge onto the motorway, and when they couldn't get it over they switched to Plan B.

Surely these blocks should be cemented in place, particularly in such an obviously dangerous location?

It would be interesting to learn whether a member of the public had previously dialled into the council or police to report a loose block at this location.

If so, then it should be the police or council up on manslaughter charges.

How? Just how could someone do something like this?

I can only hope whoever did deliberately put the block in the road has a conscience.

Truly dreadful.

We don't know what time the block was put there. It could have been put there just before it happened - we will never know.

I hope that they catch the person(s) responsible for this.

I also hope that they give themselves up to the police.

My husband rides a motorbike but thankfully in the opposite direction, I was on holiday last week and I drive this route about 630 in the morning, I wish I would have seen it and moved it if I was here :(
