1940s celebrations at Hughenden Manor

VISITORS to Hughenden Manor had the chance to step back in time at the National Trust’s annual 1940s celebrations.

More than 2,000 people turned out at the weekend to see a host of performances including a 1940s fashion show, Mr Punch vs. Adolf Hitler and a show of period music and song from The Spitfires.

Now in its fourth year, the event is used to mark Hughenden’s role in World War Two as an important RAF mapping and intelligence centre and, along with their Victorian weekend, has turned into one of the Manor’s flagship events.

Commercial manager Ed Woollard said: "It’s great to see so many people enjoying another side of the manor’s history.

"Everyone I’ve spoken to has had a fantastic time and for some of our visitors it’s bought back a lot of memories."

Details of next year's event will emerge in the new year with Hughenden staff promising an even bigger celebration of the areas role in the war effort.
