A TRUSTEE of Scannappeal who has been amazed at how far the charity has come held a special cream tea last week.

Sir Stuart Burgess held a special cream tea at Beaconsfield Golf Club last week to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary in 2012.

The guests were all involved in the early years of Scannappeal which was originally set up to purchase a CT scanner for Wycombe Hospital.

Now 25 years later the charity has raised more than £10m and completed 25 major appeals to provide a variety of life saving equipment for local hospitals, principally to help cancer patients and those with heart disease.

Sir Stuart said: "I was delighted to be able to meet again and thank some of those involved in the initial success of Scannappeal, particularly Dr Chris Foote, who originally proposed setting up the charity. I had expected Scannappeal to close after the success of its initial appeal, but I hadn't allowed for the commitment and generosity of local people.

"Its continued success is due to the efforts of the small team of fundraisers, the large number of volunteers and the generosity and support of the people of Buckinghamshire."
