Decision expected on Oxford - High Wycombe rail link
RAIL bosses are expecting a new route between High Wycombe and Oxford to get the go-ahead in the next few weeks.
Concerns about rare bats delayed the £130 million 'Evergreen 3' project earlier this year, with former Transport Secretary Justine Greening reopening a public inquiry.
But Rob Brighouse, managing director of Chiltern Railways, says he has been told a key report will be published later this month.
He told Beaconsfield Town Council on Thursday: "We are in the process of getting approval... [But] I’m already in discussions about how we build it - I have a programme and contractors lined up for when we get that order."
The scheme includes a new railway track at Bicester, providing a direct service between Oxford and High Wycombe for the first time in decades.

The UK needs more local, cross country routes opening but I can assure you it does NEED HS2.
What people do not seem to understand about our railways is that they are pretty much full to capacity and will be within the next few years. Upgrading signalling and providing longer traisn can only do so much after which the only solution are new lines.
Whilst it is sad that they have to go through countryside they have to go somewhere and the economic benefits in the long run will far outweigh the negative aspect of HS2.
Furthermore it will allow growth in business in the North of the country, an area which for many years has played second fiddle to London.
I fully support HS2 and the jobs it will bring to the construction industry and business industry in the future.
