Allotment plan scrapped due to contamination Allotment plan scrapped due to contamination

PLANS to turn land set aside for a controversial waste transfer station into allotments can't go ahead as the land is contaminated.

Amersham residents had asked Chiltern District Council to look into the possibility of creating allotments on land on London Road East.

The site is vacant after plans for a waste transfer site were rejected by Buckinghamshire County Council earlier this year, with the fact no special circumstances for building on Green Belt land being cited as a key reason.

But tests show it is unsuitable for use as allotments because of contamination in the ground, meaning the proposals from residents are unfeasible.

It is next to an existing household waste and recycling centre.
