Shopkeeper threatened with knife during Downley robbery
A SHOPKEEPER was threatened at knifepoint as raiders snatched cash and alcohol from a Downley store.
The shopkeeper of UK Food Stores was closing the Southfield Road-based store at 10pm on Saturday when he was threatened by two men.
The men, who were wearing hooded tops which covered their heads and obscured their faces, made off with cash and 16 bottles of spirits – including Jack Daniels, Courvoisier and Teachers Scotch Whisky.
DC Hannah Howard, investigating, said: “This is a particularly alarming incident as the shopkeeper was threatened with a knife.
“Fortunately he wasn’t injured but he has been left distressed by the ordeal and we are doing all that we can to find whoever is responsible.
“One man stole some cash from the till and the other man stole a substantial quantity of alcohol.
“It is possible the thieves might have stolen the alcohol to sell it on and I would encourage anyone who is offered cheap alcohol, to get in touch.”
A £1000 reward for information leading to the arrest and charge of the armed robbers is being offered by Crimestoppers.
Contact police on the 24-hour 101 enquiry line with any information or, if you do not wish to speak to police, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
