Community news: New Nordic walking course starting
AN eight-week course in Nordic Walking is coming to Beaconsfield, with a taster session taking place on Monday morning. Turn up at the Beacon Sports Centre at 10am – it will cost £5. The full course starts the following week and costs £40. For more information or to book call 01494 677 764.
A ROAD in Beaconsfield which is "totally overgrown with nettles and brambles" prompted questions over a council’s maintenance policy. Ex-councillor Deborah Sanders raised her concerns about Seeleys Close at a Beaconsfield Town Council meeting last week – asking whether the council had a reactive or preventative policy. Council leader Alan Walters suggested the clerk make a note of the comments and reply in writing.
THE next meeting of Holtspur Senior Citizens Club will be on Tuesday at Kiln Court at 2.30pm. New members are welcome. There will be entertainment, but details have not yet been confirmed. For more information call 01494 674947.
ST Mary’s Evening Group met at the Fitzwilliams Centre in Beaconsfield Old Town last night, when Rev Jeremy Brooks was due to give a talk. The group next meets on November 15, with a talk about ‘Red Kites, Flora & Fauna in the Chilterns’.
MORE than 100 public servants met in Beaconsfield yesterday as part of an effort to fight alcoholism. Alcoholics Anonymous' Chiltern & Thames Intergroup held an awareness day at the Fitzwilliam Centre, with 120 attendees drawn from the NHS, Thames Valley Police and other agencies. The group wants to promote its activities to those interested in reducing the effect of alcoholism in the community.
MOVIE company Walt Disney is reportedly negotiating a multi-million pound deal to open a base in Buckinghamshire. The entertainment and amusement park group is said to be in discussions with Pinewood Studios about taking over office space and sound stages in Iver Heath.

A PRE-CHRISTMAS charity jumble sale is coming to Beaconsfield High Schoool on Saturday, November 3, from 10am - 4pm. The sale will include designer and children’s clothes, sports equipment, toys, books, DVDs, brick-a-brac, cakes, decorations, plants and lots more. In aid of Gradnet, a network for jobseekers in South Bucks. AS part of the ‘Theatre In The Villages’ programme Morgan and West Time Travelling Magicians will be at Hedgerley Memorial Hall on Friday, October 26 at 8pm. They travel 100 years into the future presenting an hour of baffling magic. In 2011 they appeared with on the TV magic show Penn and Teller. THE model maker at Bekonscot has completed work on a ‘fabulous’ circus which will be put out in the model village in Beaconsfield today.

ACTRESS Wendy Craig will be the special guest at a fashion show in Beaconsfield on Tuesday, October 30.
