THE Star got a surprise when it went through the mailbag this week and found a letter from a cat who has decided to take matters into his own paws to help his feline pals.
Garfield, the mascot cat for Marjorie Nash Cat Rescue, based in Widmer End, even dressed up in a Santa suit to highlight his yuletide message.
The kind-hearted moggy decided to put pen to paper to call for a period of goodwill to all its furry friends this Christmas.
He wrote: "I am dressed like this for a very special reason. The things I do for my love of my feline friends - I hope they appreciate it."
Garfield went on to explain that the charity has had a record number of cats and kittens this year, which have had to be blood tested, vaccinated, spayed or neutered. With so many to take care of, the organisation will struggle to provide a full service unless it gets some help from the public.
Garfield wrote: "Please, please can you help us by donating monies and/ or food so we can carry on the good work, especially over the Christmas period."
But the conscientious cat made sure he signed off with a few words of festive cheer. He said: "We at the charity wish you all, and your pets, a very happy Christmas and a purrfect New Year."
