BUCKINGHAMSHIRE will be “in the freezer all the way to Christmas Day” with a possible Boxing Day blizzard also looming, a forecaster warned this morning.
As the county shivers in the extreme cold the ground temperature in Amersham is minus 12 degrees Celsius, according to Hazlemere-based British Weather Services.
Any hopes the snow will melt this week look bleak, although most days are likely to be dry in the main.
Forecaster Jim Dale, from BWS, said: “Down in the Amersham area this morning a lot of ground area is getting to minus 12.
"It will be the same tonight, maybe even more.
“We are in the freezer all the way to Christmas day.
“These next few days I expect to be mainly dry. There's a threat we need to be watching on Thursday time but it will probably remain to the east to us, but we need to watch short term developments.”
The Met Office has predicted Wednesday snow showers, but Mr Dale believes it is likely Bucks will escape as it hits eastern areas.
He said: “There is a front out west which will try to move in later on Christmas Day and Boxing Day which might produce blizzards before we get into anything which is in any way shape or form milder.
“I think it will be a white Christmas in terms of what is on the ground but possibly not in terms of seeing a flake on the day.
“But these things can change and we need to be careful.”
The Met office has said there may be small flurries of snow today.
Beyond Christmas, Mr Dale expects a “messy mix” of snow and rain going into the New Year.
Gritting teams were out doing secondary routes in south Bucks and restocking salt bins and heaps about 9am, according to Transport for Buckinghamshire's twitter updates.

Where are you reading that ? I am on the site now and it says nothing like that for High Wycombe :(

Downley is a nightmare! Thankfully I live on the lower slopes of Downley and managed to get out from the lower part of Plomer Hill. The Pastures and Plomer Hill itself are pretty much "no go" unless you're in a 4 x 4! The top part of Middlebrook Road is very bad ... no idea what Hughenden Avenue is like. Have to say that once you get out onto the main roads, things aren't too bad and the traffic is moving although you need to take extra caution everywhere. Most drivers seem to be going at sensible speeds and keeping a good distance. Unfortunately, I have had to go to work today but if you don't have to go out, then please don't!!!!!!

Wycombe council will be "in the doghouse" until the spring, unless they start improving conditions in the worst hit areas.

January last year I was in Chippenham Wiltshire and round the back roads of my mothers house the council were gritting all the paths and roads. It is now 8pm on Monday 20th Dec. and my father has just rung me to tell me the snow ploughs have gone past his house twice this evening and he lives in the smallest back road in the village of Mitcheldean,Gloucest
ershire. I live in one of the biggest cul-de-sacs in Europe which is the Gunthorpe Road Estate of Wiltshire Road in Marlow. And the main road out has 3inches of tightly packed snow!! I hope that nobody needs an ambulance or fire engine Mr Wycombe District Council!!

Bucks free press could you please tell me the reason why the gritter have been parked in the depot for the entire of the night and all this morning?? I thought that when temperatures fall was the time you was supposed to do this. And when I mean grit I mean proper grit not 90 % sand 10 % grit it does not work hence why the roads are not being cleared with that rubbish. All stop paying council tax buy the grit ourselves and I am sure we could al work together and do one hell of a good job.
