A Gerrards Cross solicitors has advised waste management giant Biffa on its purchase of PHS Chemical Waste from the PHS Group.

The corporate and commercial team at B P Collins, based in Station Road, which recently picked up a national Legal 500 award, advised on the purchase and was led by Partner Alex Zachary, supported by the firm's Employment and Property teams.

The acquired business collects, processes and disposes of hazardous waste on a national basis and it will be fully integrated into Biffa's Resource Recovery and Treatment Division.

The acquisition is in line with Biffa’s strategy, which aims to grow its UK-wide hazardous waste offering by consolidating its waste transfer station network.

B P Collins has worked with Biffa's management team for almost 20 years providing acquisition support and advising on its growth strategy.

Alex Zachary, partner, corporate and commercial team, said: "This deal - which required coordination across several of B P Collins’ practice groups – helps to cement Biffa’s position as having the most comprehensive waste transfer station network in the UK. I'm really proud of the way our teams pulled together to deliver an effective and seamless service.

"It's an exciting time for the firm, with a new senior management team driving us forward and increasing recognition of our "regional heavyweight" status. Our Corporate and Commercial Team recently won the Legal 500 UK award as the best regional team in England; and our litigation team, which represented the whole of the South East, was shortlisted in the Dispute Resolution category."

B P Collins has also just helped Biffa reach agreement on a planned purchase of another chemical treatment business – this time Enviroco's Chemical Treatment Division, based in Sheffield and servicing more than 80 corporate customers. The acquisition, is expected to be completed before the end of 2015.

Jo Davis, Partner in the Employment Team said: “Major companies like Biffa recognise that B P Collins has the resources, expertise, leadership and project management skills to execute large transactions that would normally be the province of London or national law firms.

“Although B P Collins is based in Gerrard’s Cross, its lawyers come from a wide range of backgrounds and many trained and worked in the City. Their expertise means we can handle exceptionally good quality work and, in turn, attract more excellent lawyers.

“It’s a self-perpetuating win/win situation for the lawyer, the firm and, ultimately, the client. We’re delighted that increasing numbers of companies based in Bucks, the Thames Valley and West London are recognising they don’t need to pay City rates to get City quality advice.”
