An 11-year-old girl managed to run away after a stranger in a van approached her in Wooburn Green last week and told her to get into the vehicle, police have said.

At around 4.45pm last Tuesday, the girl was walking along Town Lane towards the junction with Fromer Road.

As she walked, a van pulled up beside her and she heard a male voice telling her to get in the vehicle.

She managed to run away and did not look back, with her swift actions receiving praise from police.

The van is believed to be a small white combi-type van and the man had a local accent.

Investigating officer PC Rob Duffy from High Wycombe police station said: “This was obviously quite an upsetting incident for the young girl, who acted in totally the right manner and ran off when she was approached by a stranger.

“We are working to establish exactly what happened and so we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information which they think might help.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Duffy via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101
