A 44-year-old caught by police within yards of a burglary he had just committed was sent to prison the following day.

Amos Bacchus stole goods from the Ruby Moon shop in Castle Street, High Wycombe, after pulling up the security shutters and smashing the windows.

But he was arrested in nearby Easton Street still carrying the cash and shop stock he had just stolen.

Bacchus, of Windrush Drive, High Wycombe, was caught and arrested by police shortly after midnight on Tuesday, January 13.

He then admitted an offence of burglary when he appeared at Wycombe Magistrates' Court the following day, where he was jailed for 16 weeks.

Police said he stole cash and a laptop, while court records also state Bacchus stole “a quantity of legal highs”.

Bacchus was also ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge by magistrates.

PC David Cannon, of High Wycombe CID, said: “The report to police while the burglary was in process quickly led officers to the offender who was arrested.

“Bacchus was charged and brought to justice in less than 24 hours after committing the burglary.

“This conviction demonstrates that Thames Valley Police takes all reports of burglary seriously and makes every effort to detect and detain offenders.”
