Detectives are still hunting a hit and run driver who left a pedestrian for dead after mowing him down as he crossed the road in High Wycombe – with the victim now speaking out about the moment he feared for his life.

Thirty-year-old victim Peter Pisani was rushed for emergency surgery at Stoke Mandeville Hospital amid fears his leg may have to be amputated after being hit in West Wycombe Road at about 7.10pm on Thursday, February 12.

Now speaking exclusively to the Bucks Free Press as he begins his recovery from three broken ribs, a seriously injured leg and a fractured eye socket, he said he feels like he is being punished despite not doing anything wrong.

He said: “I just keep replaying it in my mind, and it still doesn’t make sense, they run me over and left me there, I had to drag myself to the other side of the road and try and save my life.

He added: “It feels like I am being punished for doing something wrong, when I haven’t, this person just hit me and carried on with their journey – it’s not fair.

“I can’t put any weight on my leg for six weeks and then for another six weeks I can only do light work with it, plus I am in so much pain with my ribs.

“It could be months before I am back on my feet again and I have concerns with things like work and money and this person has just driven off, not cared about my life.

“Maybe I could understand it if I crossed the road being drunk or stupid or something, but I literally pressed the button. It couldn’t be more text book, press the button, red light for the cars, I started walking and got hit.”

Peter has now spoken about what he can remember from the horrific hit-and-run.

Originally from Italy, Peter moved to England almost six years ago to work as an accountant for a magazine in London and has lived in Fryers Lane, Wycombe, for about a year.

Despite close family living abroad, his mother rushed to England to be by his side and help him recover from his injuries after being released from hospital after four days of treatment.

A section of West Wycombe Road was closed following the collision until about 10.30pm that evening while police carried out investigation.

It is believed the driver of the car then went in the direction of Wycombe town centre.
